Applying Equicast for Beginners

  • For Temporary Use Glue is not Necessary or if the Walls are Really Broken Up Try not to Apply Any Glue Over the Broken Area.
  • Keep the Casting Material Off The Bulbs and Hair Line
  • Make Sure There is Plenty of Casting Material at the Toe This is the Area of Most Wear
  • Place Hoof on Wet rag for 30 Seconds Then Remove the Rag if the Cast is Hard Then Your Done If the Cast is Still Soft Apply the Wet Rag Again for 30 Seconds.
  • Check to Make Sure There is no Casting Material ON THE SOFT BULBS OR HAIRLINE Trim if Necessary

Applying  Equicast and Adding a Shim for Balance

  • Wrap Hoof the as Usual Again Being Sure There is Plenty of Casting Material at the Toe
  • When Finished Wrapping Set the Hoof On a Wet Rag then Pick up the Other Hoof for 15 - 30 seconds This will Help the Cast Mold to the Sole
  • To Add a Super Fast Shim For Balance Gluing on the Cast is My Preferred Method The Glue Adhere Really Well to a Dry Cast

Circumference Wrap Method
  • Easier to Watch While Applying the Cast
  • Keep the Cast Low Being Sure to Have Plenty of Casting Material at the Point of Break Over
  • Equilox is My Preferred Glue
  • Trim Any Casting Material that is Not where you Need It Be Careful Not to Cut The Horse The Safest Method is to Keep the Knife Blade Parrallel to the Hoof Wall. Often Pushing the Casting Material Off the Hairline or Bulbs Works Well

Making a Backwards Shoe with Super Fast

  • The Cast MUST Be Thoroughly Dry Before Trying to Apply Any Type of Glue to a Cast
  • If Any White Areas Appear When Using Super Fast the Glue has Been in Contact with Moisture
  • Try to Keep the Sole Level When Applying a Super Fast Shoe In This Video There is NO Super Fast Along the Toe Area  - This is So the Toe Area Will Wear
  •  I Recommend This Method on  Long Toe Low Heel Hooves (LTLH)

Super Fast Extensions to  Balance a Hoof

  • Add Strips of Super Fast This Method is Easy a Series of Passes Building as You Go

  • Apply More than You think It"s Easier to Remove Some Extra Super Fast then Add More

  • Once the Extension is Finished a Shoe can be Applied or Not Depending on What the Horse is doing With Major Extensions I do Recommend Gluing or Nailing a Shoe on.

Loose Shoe or Raised Clinches

Wrapping Method

  • Be Sure to Stay Below The Hair Line and Off the Soft Bulbs
  • Plenty of Material Along the Toe Area and Ground Surface of the Shoe
  • It's not Shown in This Video I Use Stretch Wrap Over ALL My Casts
  • When Done Stand the Hoof on a pyramid of Sand, Shavings or a Forming Pad

Nailing a Shoe on Over a Cast

  • Before Casting Always Check for  White Line Disease WLD
  • Clean Any Areas  with WLD with a Dremel Type Tool From the Bottom Usually
  • Treat Area with Thermazene
  • Wrap the Hoof Then Fit A Shoe to the Cast Balance Shoe as a Normal Hoof
  • If Needed  Sole Impression Material SIM or Vettec Can be Used in the Collateral Grooves

How to Remove Casts On a Shod or Barefoot Hoof

  • Expose the Circumference of The Hoof or Shoe
  • With a Cast Over a Shoe Use a Clinch Cutter to Loosen the Cast From The Shoe
  • On a Barefoot Hoof Pry the Center of the Cast Away form the Sole
  • Once the Tongue is Loose Twist Off
  • Twist Off the Cast
