Glues for Equicast
Glues for Equicast

Q: Do I need to use glue?

A: Usually yes, it depends on the shape of the hoof, environment the horse lives in, how, is the horse active, the shape of the hoof, and how long you would like the cast to stay on are basic question about the use of glues. When using cast as a diagnostic tool or for initial intervention with laminitis I typically do not use any glue.

Q: Is there one kind of glue that you recommend?

A: The type of glue that works best for dry climates is Vettec Adhere. This glue is easy to apply comes in 50 cc tubes. Equilox Slow Set seems to work the best in wetter environments. Some people like Pete Ramey, have said they are having great success with Gorilla Glue I have to say I have not used Gorilla Glue.

With all glues less is more meaning a nice bead mid wall from about fourth nail to fourth nail works best.

Preparing a hoof for gluing is a major factor in its success. DO NOT use any cleaning agents just use a sanding block to remove any oils and/or dirt that's it. A clean dry surface is all that is required to have good results.
